Stone: Castro 'Will Grow Into A Third Baseman'
(WSCR) As a 21-year-old shortstop, Starlin Castro is the youngest Chicago Cubs player to ever make an All-Star game. However, there's a chance that in the future, he'll make the game as a third baseman.
"Eventually, he will grow into a third baseman," Steve Stone said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "He's not a third baseman now...he's doing a great job at shortstop, you leave him there. I saw him as a 19-year-old in the Arizona Fall League, the steps he's made forward to this point has made him bigger and stronger. He's probably going to get a little bigger, and certainly stronger in the next couple of years."

If Castro's future is indeed at third base, then the Cubs need to start planning for that future. With Aramis Ramirez in the final year of is contract (there is a club option for 2012), the Cubs need to evaluate how far off a move for Castro might be, and who will play third until that time.
"In bringing Ramirez back," Stone said. "You have to ask yourself: Do you retard the advancement of your baseball team? Or are you on a holding pattern for a while, to beat some people? Because looking at the division, the division, again, might be there for the taking."
