Still No Timetable For Bears WR Wilson After Surgery
BOURBONNAIS (CBS) -- Less than 24 hours after being strapped up in shoulder pads, Marquess Wilson was under the knife. The Bears' second-year receiver underwent surgery Tuesday on his broken right clavicle, an injury he suffered in Monday's training camp practice.
Wilson injured himself diving for a pass in the end zone, and he was carted off the practice field shortly after. There's no timetable on his return to action.
"Like most injuries, everyone is individual," Bears general manager Phil Emery said. "Let's see how he heals, and we'll make decisions moving forward based on that and how he progresses."
A week-and-a-half into training camp, Wilson had all but locked up his spot as the Bears' third receiver, behind Pro Bowlers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Now, the team must move forward with a solution.
Coach Marc Trestman said the Bears will come to a "resolution over the next 48 hours." Whoever assumes Wilson's role has big shoes to fill.
"It's tough," Trestman said. "He brought a lot. We'll let things take its course."
For the time being, the Bears have worked their depth at receiver while shorthanded. Chris Williams, Eric Weems and Josh Bellamy saw the majority of reps in Wilson's place Tuesday.
The Bears hold one more practice in Bourbonnais before their first preseason game, a home contest with the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night.
