Stevenson Expressway Snagged By Truck Tractor Fire
SUMMIT, Ill. (CBS) -- A truck tractor burst into flames on a ramp to the Stevenson Expressway early Thursday, blowing smoke over the inbound lanes and causing a serious traffic jam.
The semi-tractor, which was not hauling a trailer, burst into flames on the ramp from Harlem Avenue to the inbound Stevenson Expressway around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. No one was injured.
Motorists had to drive through a plume of smoke as they headed toward the city o on the expressway.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports as of 6:45 a.m., the Stevenson was jammed solid from the Tri-State Tollway to Harlem Avenue, and a gapers block caused backups on the outbound side as far east as Kedzie Avenue.
The truck tractor was destroyed in the fire.
