State Sues Condo Board After Man Can't Keep His Therapy Dogs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Illinois Attorney General's office is suing a North Lake Shore Drive condo association in a dispute over dogs.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Conway reports, a Chicago Tribune report says the Attorney General's lawsuit was filed on a behalf of a 67-year-old resident of a building in the 3100 block of North Lake Shore Drive, who says the condo board repeatedly refused to lift its ban on pets.
This was despite the fact that the man's two pet poodles help him deal with his symptoms of chronic depression, the Tribune reported.
The unidentified resident, who works as a painter, says in recent years, he provided letters from two doctors attesting to the therapeutic need for the dogs, adding that other tenants have been allowed to keep companion animals, the newspaper reported.
The suit, which claims discrimination, was filed under terms of the Illinois Human Rights Act.
