State Senator's Restraining Order Extended Six Months
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The no-stalking, anti-harassment order of protection against state Sen. Suzi Schmidt was extended for six months Friday by Lake County Judge George Strickland.
The same provisions barring Schmidt from contacting her neighbors in unincorporated Lake Villa are in effect through May 2, attorney David Del Re said.
He represents the neighbors who allege that Lake Villa Republican left them a "series of harassing phone calls, text messages (and) e-mails" since December 2010.
Schmidt is not to come within 500 feet of the neighbors and is not to use a phone, text, email or use a third party to contact these neighbors. The order of protection will expire on its own without further action from the court as long as there are no violations, Del Re said.
Schmidt was acquitted last month of criminal trespassing and damage of trespassing on her neighbor's property. During the trial, Schmidt testified she believed there was evidence her husband was having an affair with her neighbor.
