State Police Issue More Than 100 Tickets For Texting While Driving
CHICAGO (CBS/AP) -- Illinois State Police handed out 135 tickets Monday morning while patrolling Chicago's Kennedy Expressway in search of what troopers believe to be distracted drivers.
The bulk of the tickets were for texting while driving, ISP spokeswoman Monique Bond said.
Authorities say texting while driving is unsafe, irresponsible and its consequences can be devastating.
State police officials say members of the Distracted Driving Enforcement Detail have been working the entire length of the Kennedy on Monday. In addition to texting, troopers are watching for cellphone use and other activities that are prohibited while driving.
