State House Rejects Increased Spending Plan By Senate

The state House of Representatives is allowing the budget to remain as-is. State Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) said representatives would not consider another spending bill the state Senate had sent over.
House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) moved to "non-concur" on the plan.
"That increases spending above the levels, and without a new form of revenue, then there's no way to pay for what the Senate would like to have," Mautino said.
A conference committee will look at the $430 million in extra spending proposed by the Senate.
State Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) backed the extra spending.
"We think we should pass the capital bill, with the additional appropriations. It's certainly still way under the amount of money that we know is going to be coming in next year," Cullerton said. "That's really important."
In another big-ticket item this year, the state House put seven more "yes" votes on a workers' compensation revamp – enough to pass it, unlike the first attempt Sunday.
