State Bans Boating On Much Of Fox River
(STMW) -- Because of high and fast-running water caused by last week's storms, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and its Conservation Police have banned boating along the Fox River between the dam at McHenry and the dam at Montgomery.
A statement from the DNR Friday said it has "temporarily restricted public access ... due to swift currents, floating debris and submerged structures, which have created conditions significantly hazardous for public navigation.
"These conditions also make it treacherous for emergency personnel who are called upon to respond to and rescue subjects involved in boating-related incidents," the DNR said.
It said the ban will continue until further notice, but "access to the affected portion of Fox River will be restored once conditions no longer present significant hazards to public navigation."
