They are intended to reduce the amount of pollution running into Illinois waterways from stormwater sources.

The grant to Aurora, worth about $1.45 million, is for the city's Combined Sewer Overflow Program, 112 rain gardens, and two permeable pavement areas at 28 intersections. All are intended to reduce overflow into the city's combined sewer system.
