Starbucks Made Of Old Shipping Containers Coming To Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There seems to be a Starbucks on just about every corner, but a new store planned for the Edgewater neighborhood is unique.
A spokeswoman for the Seattle-based coffee company says the new store--made from old box shipping containers--will open at Devon and Broadway this summer.
Based on artist's renderings, the shipping containers will be stacked on top of each other to create the store.
It will be a drive-thru location, but customers will also be able to walk up and place their order.
Construction is set to begin soon.
The environmentally friendly concept is designed to minimize the use of construction materials, while sparing the old box containers from the scrap heap. There are only a few such stores in the country, including one in Tukila, Wa.
