CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was taken to a hospital after stealing a tractor-trailer truck and starting a standoff on the Bishop Ford Freeway in which he threatened suicide.
Police said the man stole the tractor-trailer and dropped the trailer off somewhere. Police were looking for the trailer as of just after 8 a.m.
The man was then found in the tractor part of the truck near Wentworth Avenue or 99th Street on the Bishop Ford Freeway. A trooper was able to stop the semi but as the trooper approached, he saw the trucker put a knife to his throat, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Elizabeth Nanai.
The man was threatening suicide in the cab of the truck.
During the standoff, the Bishop Ford was shut down, and all traffic was diverted onto I-57. The Bishop Ford had reopened by 8:15 a.m.
At 7:30 a.m. fire personnel transported the man Jackson Park Hospital in good condition, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado. Illinois State Police confirmed he was in custody, and there were no injuries.
