St. Sabina Holds Annual March Against Violence

CHICAGO (CBS) - The Rev. Michael Pfleger, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy led hundreds of people of all ages Friday night on the annual St. Sabina Church end-of-school march against violence.

Speaker after speaker told the crowd in a rally on the steps of St. Sabina's before the march that they cannot be silent when violence hits their community.

"If you go out to Lombard, to Skokie, to other areas, they don't accept this (violence) in their community," said Pam Bosley, whose son was murdered in 2007.

She then posed a question: "So why are we accepting it in ours?

McCarthy said he found the spirited the rally and march through gang-infested turf to be invigorating. Pfleger said he wants to see a return of what he called the "nosy neighbor syndrome" – know everything that's going on in your neighborhood, let everyone else know, and call the police. He said if 20 people call police about a shooting, gangs cannot retaliate.
