St. Louis Mayor Brushes Off Emanuel's Offer To Bet On Cubs-Cards Series
St. Louis To Chicago: Don't Bother Us
(CBS) – Mayor Rahm Emanuel seems thrilled with the prospect of a Cubs playoff series with their archrival Cardinals, but he's finding the Mayor of St. Louis unwilling to share in the fun.
WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.
Emanuel says all of the Chicago is excited to see the Cubs making their way through the playoffs.
"I don't think this is just a North Side phenomenon," Emanuel said Friday. "This is a city of Chicago phenomenon, where everybody, regardless of where they live in the city, and regardless of what baseball team they have rooted for."
On another front, Emanuel had sought to make a wager with his St. Louis counterpart, Mayor Francis Slay, on the outcome of the NLDS. Emanuel put Chicago delicacies like Lou Malnati's pizza and Eli's cheesecake and even a charitable donation on the line.
Slay's office indicated to Chicago they're not interested and that their staff's time is too valuable to be spent on setting up a counter-offer.
