Spurs' Gregg Popovich Takes Jab At Cavaliers
(CBS) The Golden State Warriors continued their run of dominance this season, trouncing the team with the league's second-best record, the San Antonio Spurs, to the tune of a 120-90 score on Monday night.
While the two teams are the gold standard of the Western Conference, with each winning a championship in the past two seasons, it's clear the Warriors are the better team. Naturally, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't pull any punches after the game.
"We almost got 'em," Popovich joked.
Also coming was a line that appeared to be a jab at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Days after the Warriors hammered the Cavs, 132-98, Cleveland fired head coach David Blatt, despite owning the top record in the Eastern Conference. Part of the reasoning for Blatt's firing, Cavs general manager David Griffin said, was because the team lacked spirit in the locker room after games.
Following the Warriors' win over the Spurs, Popovich had a line that seemed to be directed toward the Cavaliers' leadership.
"I'm just glad my general manager wasn't in the locker room," Popovich said. "I might have been fired."
The Spurs still stand at second in the Western Conference, and the Cavs are holding on to the top spot in the Eastern Conference, but it's pretty clear the best team in the NBA resides in Golden State.
