Spotify: University Of Illinois Urbana Champaign Is One Of The 'Most Musical Universities In America'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Music streaming service Spotify tracked the listening patterns of America's college students and compiled a list of the most musical universities in the country -- and one Illinois school made the list.
While Arizona State University was number one on Spotify's list, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign came in at number 28 (ASU has about 72,000 students, while Urbana-Champaign has about 44,000 students).
With more than 40 million active users, 10 million of which are paying subscribers, Spotify is one of the most popular audio streaming services in use. With it, users are able to listen to millions of tracks from artists that top the charts and indie darlings alike. While normal users have to listen to ads every few songs, Spotify Premium subscribers are able to skip commercials. Premium subscribers also have a number of other unique features at their disposal, like the ability to listen to songs offline.
Examining University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign closer, Spotify was able to identify a few key listening habits.
Urbana-Champaign students seem to love the electro rock band Phantogram, but hate pop diva Lana Del Rey. While they mostly listen to pop and dance music, they also listen to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" more than any other school.
Spotify has also determined when students wake up and go to sleep, based on when they start blasting their sweet tunes. On average, Urbana-Champaign students wake up around 10:15 am and go to bed around 1:15 am.
