Sports Roles Come Natural To Dennis Quaid
With Soul Surfer releasing in early April, its no surprise Dennis Quaid has a role in the inspirational film. Quaid has played in several sports films such as The Rookie, Any Given Sunday and Everybody's All-American.
"When I was in high school in Texas, I was too small to join the football team, that's how I wound up in the drama department," Dennis Quaid said on the Boers & Bernstein show while he discussed his latest film. "I guess I was a late bloomer. I did one and then I did another and then all of a sudden, I'm a sports movie guy."

There is a lot of drama in sports that isn't always apparent and that's what draws Dennis Quaid to these films.
"There are great stories in sports. There's so much drama, especially when they're true stories. There's a familiarity for the audience when they see them," Quaid said.
Some actors have a method to getting into the role. Dennis Quaid, on the other hand, just dives right in.
"I kind of don't think about it anymore," Quaid said about how he approaches movies. "It kind of just works by itself after a while I think. I just read a script and if I feel it, I feel it."
Soul Surfer releases April 8th and is a true story about a 13 year old surfer who lost her arm after a shark attack. Dennis Quaid plays the father of Bethany Fan, the young surfer who is determined to surf the waves once again.
