Sox GM's Unwanted Visitor Indicted On Burglary Charge
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A homeless man who allegedly broke into the home of White Sox general manager Kenny Williams, then drank beer, ate pizza and defrosted a lobster, was formally charged with burglary on Monday.
Wayne L. Field III, who had on Williams' clothing — including a fur and World Series ring — was peeking through the window of the home on Nov. 21 when an officer helping with the burglary investigation approached, according to a police report.
When the officer asked his name Monday night, the 51-year-old replied, "Wayne Field III," police said. And that matched the name etched on a hospital bracelet found inside the townhome on Benton Place, assistant Cook County State's Atty. Lorraine Scaduto said at Field's bond hearing on Wednesday.
Field was arrested for the burglary, which is believed to have taken place over the previous weekend. Field also had Williams' Cadillac keys and balcony keys, the police report said, and was wearing Williams' watch, shirt, jeans and sweatshirt.
Williams, who was out of town when the crime occurred, said the burglar drank his beer, ate frozen pizza, surfed the Internet and kicked his shoes off on the bed. He even defrosted a lobster.
On Monday, a judge found probable cause to indict him on the burglary charge and set arraignment for Dec. 19 in North Felony Court (Br. 42), according to state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Field, of the 900 block of West Lawrence Avenue, is being held on $100,000 bond. Should he make bond, Field cannot have contact with Williams or go to U.S. Cellular Field.
Field, who lives in a basement homeless shelter in an Uptown church, was found guilty and sentenced to 30 days in jail for a misdemeanor battery on Nov. 8, Scaduto said. He has also has been arrested for assault, indecent exposure and sexual abuse, according to court records.
