Southwest Experiences Outage, Many Flights Delayed
CHICAGO (CBS) - Many Southwest Airline customers experienced delays after a telecommunications outage halted some air travel Tuesday night.
The outage happened around 6 p.m. and lasted for 90 minutes and was sporadically happening in some markets. The outage affected up to 400 flights including some at Midway airport. Passengers are being reassured that they will reach their destinations.
Southwest Airlines explained the problem as if when your WiFi goes out at your home and you need to reboot the system. The reboot caused issues with phones and their data center which forced them to use a manual system to process passengers.
