South Sider To Place $100K Bet At Kentucky Derby
CHICAGO (CBS) -- South Side resident Dave "Rico" Flores might be $100,000 richer if he wins a bet on the Kentucky Derby he won the right to place.
Flores will get to place the bet Saturday, after winning the Dream Bet Sweepstakes sponsored by Churchill Downs and NBC Sports. He gets to place a $100,000 wager on one horse to win.
His name was selected from hundreds of thousands of applicants, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Flores will pick his choice on the Kentucky Derby telecast around 5:15 p.m., shortly before the race begins, the Tribune reported.
Flores has not said which horse he will select, although he tells The Associated Press that a part of him would like to go for a long shot such as Watch Me Go, at 50-1. But common sense will likely take over given the amount of money that's at stake, the AP reported.
Flores, 52, is a manager of a metal manufacturing shop near Midway International Airport, and a 1975 alum of St. Rita High School, the Tribune reported.
