South Shore Trains Running Normally After Morning Suspension
CHICAGO (CBS)-- South Shore trains are running normally after they were suspended Sunday morning due to a power outage in Portage County, Indiana.
The outage affected trains between South Bend and East Chicago and caused "extensive damage" at the South Shore substation, according to a statement posted on the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District's website.
The power failure was due to a loss of commercial power from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company in Porter County, the statement said.
While trains were running normally, some were experiencing lengthy delays.
Westbound train No. 506 was running up to 90 minutes late, and eastbound train No. 505 was experienced a 75 minutes delay.
Other trains that were canceled or affected were:
- South Shore westbound train No. 502 and No. 504 between South Bend and Chicago.
- The westbound train No. 606 between Michigan City and East Chicago.
- South Shore eastbound trains No. 503 between East Chicago and South Bend
- Train No. 603 between East Chicago and Michigan City.
- Eastbound train No. 605 between East Chicago and Michigan City.
