South Shore Train Service Restored East Of Hammond
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Service on the South Shore commuter train line was temporarily suspended east of Hammond on Wednesday evening, due to damage to the overhead wires that power the trains.
According to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, eastbound Train 209 was disabled east of East Chicago, due damage to a structure holding up the power lines for the train.
As a result, all South Shore service was temporarily suspended east of Hammond. Limited service was restored later in the evening.
Three eastbound trains – trains 209, 215 and 117 – and westbound trains 218 and 20 were cancelled.
