South Shore Residents Protest Closing Of Grocery Store
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Employees who lost their job when the city shut down a South Shore grocery and liquor store are calling for it to reopen.

Standing at 79th and South Shore and holding signs, protesters say this neighborhood's lacking strong leaders at city hall.
"We don't have any leaders in here, we don't have an alderman, that is why I have this sign" said resident Betty Robinson. "As a matter of fact, I am a little angry at the mayor too."
Robinson is a senior, says she must take the bus to get to the grocery store, and found South Shore Food and Liquor store on 79th Street helped when she ran out of things like bread and milk.
Anthony Spruille, stocks shelves at South Shore and lost his job.
"We have been closed down for no legitimate reason you know and nobody has given us answers," said Spruille. "It is hard to open back up and the community needs a store."
Online records show the city held a public hearing as to whether South Shore, in an area plagued by gangs, should be allowed to continue to sell liquor.
