South Shore Post Office To Close In Cost-Cutting Move
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- A small post office in the South Shore neighborhood is the only one in the Chicago area slated to shut down amid hundreds of planned post office closings nationally in the coming months.
The U.S. Postal Service lost $8.5 billion in 2010 and is faced with having to make major cost-cutting moves.

The small post office in the 2100 block of East 71st Street will be closed as part of a national effort to reverse the red ink.
It's a retail only facility--no mail is delivered from there--where customers can buy stamps or mail packages, USPS spokesman Mark Reynolds said.
While the postal service will be shuttering brick and mortar stores, Reynolds said there are more ways than ever to obtain mail services online and via smart phone apps.
