South Holland Cab Driver Dies After Being Shot In Robbery Last Week
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 48-year-old cab driver who was robbed and then shot by two men who hailed his car on the South Side last week has died, authorities said.
South Holland resident Edwin Obazuaye died 7:03 p.m. Monday at Advocate Christ Hospital -- four days after a bullet grazed his head and another landed in his back -- according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Last Thursday about 5:45 p.m. Obazuaye, of the 400 block of East 167th Street in the south suburb, was hailed in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.
The two men who climbed in his cab in the 8500 block of South Parnell Avenue quickly demanded Obazuaye's possessions, police said.
After traveling a little further than a mile, at least one of the men opened fire near West 91st Street and South Lafayette Avenue, striking the cabbie twice, authorities said.
The two fled on foot, taking the Obazuaye's cell phone, police said. It is unclear if they also stole money from him.
No arrests have been made. The murder remains under investigation.
