Marinelli, Most Assistant Coaches Not Returning To Bears
(WSCR) -- Rod Marinelli will not be the Bears' defensive coordinator under new head coach Marc Trestman, and most of the other assistant coaches under former head coach Lovie Smith are being let go.
Reports indicated the Bears had hoped to retain Marinelli, but Trestman confirmed during his introductory press conference Thursday that Marinelli will seek new opportunities.
The Bears said Thursday several other coaches were informed they will not return to the club's coaching staff in 2013: Mike Tice, Bob Babich, Jeremy Bates, Mike DeBord, Darryl Drake, Tim Holt and Tim Spencer.
Special teams coordinator Dave Toub had already left to take a job with the Chiefs.
The Bears also have hired former Dallas special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis for the same job on Trestman's staff.
