Sources: Man Lights Home On Fire, Fatally Shoots Himself

CHICAGO (STMW) - A Humboldt Park man is dead after allegedly igniting his home on fire then shooting himself late Saturday on the West Side.

The body of a man was found about 11:30 p.m. Saturday inside a burning apartment in the 1500 block of North California Avenue, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said 59-year-old Andre Conrad was dead inside his home.

Sources said Conrad allegedly ignited a fire in the basement of the building then went upstairs and shot himself. The incident allegedly began over a property dispute, sources said.

Conrad apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and smoke inhalation, authorities said. An autopsy is scheduled for later Sunday, the medical examiner's office said.

Grand Central Area detectives are conducting a "death investigation," according to police News Affairs.
