Soriano: Booing By Cubs Fans 'Not Fair'
(WSCR) The frustration stemming from Alfonso Soriano's lack of hustle and albatross contract reached a breaking point Sunday night at Wrigley Field.
As the Cubs trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Soriano nailed a sharp line drive to third base. It appeared Boston's Will Middlebrooks caught the ball, but the it bounced out of his glove. When the ball hit the dirt, Soriano was still standing in the batter's box, leaving Middlebrooks enough time to pick up the ball and then throw to first base - ending the inning and stranding two base runners.
Wrigley Field immediately erupted in a chorus of boos - something Soriano wasn't too happy about.
"(The booing) is not fair because I hit a line drive to his glove," Soriano said. "I'm happy my teammates, manager and coaches support me because they know that I'm working hard to be a better player and a better teammate. It's not fair."
Fortunately for Soriano, his manager has his back.
"It's one of those things where 100 percent of every player in the history of baseball would do the same thing," manager Dale Sveum said."
