Son Charged In Morton Grove Home Arson
SKOKIE, Ill. (STMW) -- A parolee was ordered held on $25,000 bond for allegedly using gasoline to start a fire during an argument at his parents' north suburban Morton Grove home last month.
Kevin Maguire, 43, of Morton Grove, was charged April 29 with aggravated arson in connection with a fire at his parents' house on the 8900 block of Oriole Avenue.
Police said Maguire, who recently was released from jail, was at his parents' house. After getting into an argument with them, he threatened to burn down the house. Police said he poured gasoline on the floor, but his father wrestled the gas can away from him.
Police said Maguire tossed a lighter onto the gas and the gasoline started burning, but his father was able to put it out.
He was charged with aggravated arson because there were people in the house when he started the fire, police said.
Maguire was paroled last September on DUI charges stemming from 2009, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. He previously served another two-year sentence for another DUI conviction from 2006.
He was ordered held on $25,000 bond, and will next appear at the Skokie Courthouse on May 20, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
