Someone You Should Know: Hockey Player Julia Sinople
(CBS) -- Thousands of women in the U.S. are now involved in the game of hockey. Fourteen-year-old Julia Sinople is one of them.
CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says she's someone you should know.
She has been on the ice as a hockey player for the past 11 years. As she works out at the Glenview Ice Center with her brother Zak, she realizes times are changing.
"It was made by males, but women over the years have really taken it over," Julia says.
She's in the vanguard of that movement. Only Canada has more women hockey players than the U.S. In this country, some 61,000 women are involved in the sport.
"She's very, very motivated," hockey director Sylvain says. "She has a love for that game. You can see it in her eyes when she skates. She's always smiling."
Julia admits that reaching her level as a hockey player has not been easy, with the long hours working out and sometimes the pain.
"I feel proud of myself. I feel i have accomplished a lot," she says.
