Someone You Should Know: Bria Gamble, Never Missed A Day Of School
(CBS) -- She's getting ready to graduate from high school and can look back on a very special achievement.
CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says Bria Gamble is someone you should know.
As the 18-year-old prepares to graduate from Seton Christian Academy in South Holland, she leaves behind an incredible benchmark that few attain.
The all-A student did not miss one single day of high school. But that's only part of it. Over the past 14 years of her entire school career, she has maintained perfect attendance.
"If we had more students like that we could change the world," principal Earl McKay says.
Bria's explanation: "My granddad went 20 years without missing a day of work. I feel like I was influenced by him."
The Dolton resident excels at basketball and is on the cross-country track team.
Bria's parents – Brian, a CTA bus driver and her mom, Ruthie -- are her staunchest supporters. Even through the worst of winters, they made sure she got to school.
"We would get in our cars and it would take us an hour to go a 15-minute route and we would do it because we knew the importance of just keeping her motivated," Ruthie Gamble says.
Bria says school was always a safe place for her to be. She hopes other young people will see it that way.
She will study kinesiology at Illinois State University.
