Someone You Should Know: 109-Year-Old Receptionist
(CBS) -- Amilee Cruikshank is a unique person: She still works four days a week and is in excellent health, despite the fact that she will soon be 109 years old.
CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says she's someone you should know.
Perhaps when they're older the kids in day care at the Marcy Center in the North Lawndale community may remember the receptionist, Cruikshank.
Monday through Thursday, she is at her desk to greet kids and visitors alike and to answer the phone. These days, she's extra busy as she prepares to celebrate her 109th birthday on April 29.
"I enjoy the children. They just pass by and wave at you. Love them," she says. She adds: "I need a job."
Cruikshank started working here in 1979. With the exception of time out for a hip replacement in 2011 she's been there ever since -- 34 years.
"She gets in her own bed, gets in her own clothes," her daughter, Pamela Potts. "She's going great."
Often, Cruikshank is the first one who arrives to start the day at 8 a.m., and frequently she stays beyond her 1 p.m. quitting time.
Her advice for people who want to live long?
"I love life and I love to enjoy it, and I try to enjoy it, but not abuse it," she says.
