Some Plane Wreckage From Plainfield Crash Found Mile Away, NTSB Finds
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The National Transportation Safety Board has released preliminary information on the crash last Thursday that killed the 58-year-old pilot from Florida.
The report states that the majority of the debris from Garry Thomas Bernardo' plane was found at the wreckage site on Hampton Court near the border with Plainfield.
Other parts of the plane-- including the left wing--were found in various areas nearly one mile from the crash site.
That confirms earlier reports that the plane may have been breaking apart in mid-air.
Records show the plane did pass an annual inspection last year.

Investigators also say the plane crashed at nearly a vertical angle.
The exact cause of the crash is still unknown, though there was a thunderstorm developing in the area at the time.
No one on the ground was injured.
