Softball Coach Suffers Heart Attack, Is Revived At Field
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (CBS) – It was just after Schaumburg's freshman softball team's game, and assistant coach Rich Keller had just collected third base.
"I became overwhelmingly dizzy," he says.
He dropped to the ground Monday -- no pulse, no sign of life.
"I was going to have a child a week after that happened and their grandfather possibly couldn't be there," Keller's tearful daughter, head coach Brittany Moll, tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.
"There was nothing at all," parent Joe Boshold said.
Boshold performed CPR while athletic trainer Kelly Wika ran to get an automated external defibrillator, or AED. After the second shock, there was a sign of life.
"I'm on borrowed time now, this is all bonus," Keller.
Shaumburg High School has 10 devices on the property; this is the first life saved on the premise.
"It has a happy ending," Brittany Moll says.
And it promises to get better -- she's still expecting, she's already two days overdue.
