'Soaring Echoes' Audio Sculpture Brings Bird Sounds To Millennium Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It sounded like Big Bird had found a big home on the Millennium Park Lawn this week.
WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports the sounds of birds drifted over the Great Lawn of the Pritzker Pavilion, drawing in tourists and locals alike to determine the source.
With few birds visible – none on the lawn itself – the only possible sound source left was the loudspeaker matrix above.
A walk further on produced the explanation: a seven-part aural sculpture creating a sound symphony of birds, water, and human voices composed by Bill Fontana for the Pritzker Pavilion sound system.
The public art installation, called "Soaring Echoes," has been playing three to four days a week this month. The final three days it can be heard are Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
