Snow-Free Morning Commute Expected, But More Snow Could Come Later
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Drivers in the Chicago region should get a reprieve from snowy weather for the morning commute Tuesday, but isolated snow showers could affect roads later in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The city deployed 160 salt trucks overnight in preparation for the morning commute after snow fell Monday afternoon, according to the Dept. of Streets & Sanitation. Salting was completed by 4 a.m. Tuesday and only 11 trucks were still spreading salt throughout the morning.
O'Hare International Airport was hit with a half-inch of snow Monday and areas in the northwest suburbs received about an inch, NWS meteorologist Matt Friedlein said.
But snow was not expected to move through the Chicago area again until Tuesday afternoon, Friedlein said.
Isolated snow showers across the whole Chicago region could lead to a quick dusting of snow just in time for Tuesday's evening commute, Friedlein said.
