Snow Coming For Afternoon, Will Later Turn To Freezing Rain

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mondays are not known for being the most popular day of the week in western culture, and this particular Monday, the weather will give Chicagoans an extra reason to be disappointed.
Snow.
The temperature remained chilly through the morning – it was a mere 17 degrees at O'Hare International Airport as of 6:45 a.m., but had risen to 28 by 11:15 a.m.
But CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says while skies were calm in the morning, after 3 p.m., a low-pressure system will blow through and begin dumping snow on the area. Only about 1 to 2 inches of accumulation is expected, though, with higher totals to the south.
The snow will continue through the night. But after the low-pressure system moves through, the temperature will rise enough to turn the precipitation into freezing rain.
That will create a treacherous situation on the roadways Tuesday morning, as a layer of ice coats the fallen snow.
Highs are expected to be relatively mild for the rest of the week – 37 on Tuesday, 39 on Wednesday, 37 again on Thursday, and 38 on Friday. And this weekend, the highs climb to 39 for Saturday and 40 for Sunday.
