Snow, Bitter Cold Bearing Down On Chicago This Weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The mild weather will come to an end for the Chicago area this weekend, as several inches of snow are possible Saturday night, followed by a blast of bitter cold on Sunday.
Friday morning started out rainy for the Chicago area, and showers will continue on and off through most of the day, as temperatures linger in the low 40s.
That rain will shift to snow Saturday night, when temperatures begin to drop below freezing. Snowfall could be heavy at times, and even after the snow ends late Saturday or early Sunday, blowing snow will continue to be an issue near the lake.
The latest forecast models show Chicago could get 3-5 inches of snow in some areas. Most of the Chicago area likely will get 2-4 inches, though that could change if the storm system shifts before it gets here.
Then, Sunday night, temperatures will take a big dive, with a low of 0 to 10 degrees, and wind chills in the negatives by early Monday, making it the coldest morning of the winter so far.
That bitter cold will linger through the first few days of next week, with highs no better than about 20 degrees through Wednesday, and lows in the teens or single digits at night.
