Smoke Shuts Down Power To CTA Red Line
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Power was shut down to part of the CTA Red Line subway Wednesday morning, after brakes on a train began smoking.
The incident near the Harrison station, 600 S. State St., turned out to be minor, CTA and Fire Department officials said. There was no fire involved and no one on the train needed medical attention.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. "A train had some smoking brakes," CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said.
As a precaution, the fire department was called, and a still-and-box alarm and an EMS Plan I response, which sends at least five ambulances to the scene, were issued.
Power was removed from the tracks "very briefly," Taylor said.
But when fire crews got to the scene, the train that had the smoking brakes had already left the station.
Because of the incident, Red Line trains experienced minor delays Wednesday morning.
