Smoke On CTA Red Line Subway; Person On Blue Line Tracks
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Emergency crews are responding to a report of smoke in a Loop subway Monday afternoon.
An EMS Plan 1 and still-and-box alarm was called to the report of a fire at 312 S. State St. about 2 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicated overheated brakes caused smoky conditions within the subway.
CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said reports of smoke have not been confirmed, but Red Line subway trains were being rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown as firefighters investigate.
Meanwhile, power is being restored to the CTA Blue Line after a person on the tracks forced a short delay.
Hosinski said the person was not struck by a train and did not contact the electrified third rail.
The incident occurred about 1:45 p.m. and power was being restored as of 2:05 p.m., she said.
