Smith Snaps When Asked Of Martz's Future
(CBS) To say the tension is a little tight at Halas Hall might be the understatement of the year.
After cruising to a 7-3 start, the Bears have lost five-straight games since starting quarterback Jay Cutler went down with a thumb injury.
In a rare show of emotion, Bears head coach Lovie Smith let his frustration out Wednesday on a reporter who asked if offensive coordinator Mike Martz would remain with the Bears after the 2011 season.
"What kind of question is that at this time?" Smith. "What kind of question is that? Why would you ask a question like that anyway?"
Smith then ended the interview session.
Martz is in the final year of his contract with the Bears, and there has been speculation he won't return in 2012. He did, however, express a desire to remain with the organization.
"I've addressed that already and obviously I would sure like to be back," Martz said Wednesday. "I think all of that stuff works out. This is going to be a great football team and I would like to be a part of it. We'll just see how it works out. We'll address that when the season is over."
