Smith Comfortable With Decision To Bench Harris
(CBS) It's safe to say it's been a whirlwind for Bears safety Chris Harris over the past few weeks.
After missing three games with a hamstring injury, Harris proved to be a liability in coverage in his return against the Lions. His poor play ultimately led to his benching in favor of Major Wright.
Not only was Harris benched in Sunday's win over the Vikings, he wasn't even activated for the game, leading Harris to formally requesting a trade from the Bears. Still, Smith feels he made the right decision.
"I feel pretty comfortable with the decision I made," Smith said.
Smith also said Harris' injury wasn't a factor in his benching.
"Whether he was 100 percent or not, I'm basing it on what I thought was best for our team in that game," he said.
Adding, "During the course of the season, you can't dress everyone each game. There are some inactive players each week. We make those decisions based on a lot of things. In Chris' case, at the safety position, if you're not playing a lot on regular downs, it's about special teams. But that was this week, things change quickly, almost daily."
