"The private portion will be the date prior to the funeral for his family only; no public visitation," said funeral home senior vice president and operations director Steven Leak.
Lewis, an eight-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, had just started working part-time as a security guard for the M & M Quick Foods, 1201 N. Austin Blvd. Thursday night, two masked and armed men entered the store and one began firing immediately, police said.
Burial will be private.
Lewis, the father of an 11-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. Police say they are pursuing leads but have asked for the public's help in tracking down the killers.
A reward of more than $10,000 for information leading to arrests and convictions in Lewis's murder is being offered by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. A tip line has been set up to field calls at (888) 976-7468.
