Slain Officer's Daughter Gets Help With College Expenses
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There were laughs and tears at the tony Paris Club Thursday evening.
"I see him everywhere," attendee Peg Flisk tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.
When she looks in the mirror, she has her dad's Irish eyes. Peg's father, Chicago Police Officer Michael Flisk, was one of two men shot in the head and killed on Nov. 26, 2010. He was investigating a crime when the criminal came back and opened fire.
After her father was mourned by the city, she wondered: "How am I supposed to go back to school?"
Little did Flisk know college would all be paid for. The 100 Club of Chicago stepped in. For decades, the organization has helped the families of those who died protecting the city. Flisk was at the Paris Club to say thank you.
Many also remember her for her eulogy of her father that ended with a standing ovation.
"My father is in Heaven now. I know this because the Chicago bears are in first place," she said in 2010.
On Thursday, she gave thanks to those who've embraced her family. The 100 Club of Chicago is not only paying for her undergraduate degree, but they'll pay for law school if she goes.
She's thankful for many and missing one.
"Every time I go to sleep, wake up -- he's there," she says of her dad.
Since his passing, one of Officer Flisk's sons has become a policeman.
His daughter will get her undergrad from DePaul next year. She will graduate on Father's Day.
