Skull Found In Creek Near Joliet
JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) -- Construction workers found what's believed to be a human skull, in a creek bed near Joliet.
CBS 2's Mike Pucinelli reports the workers made the discovery early Thursday while working on a bridge in Jackson Township, south of the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.
Sources said the skull did not have any teeth, and might have been missing part of its lower jaw. No other remains or clothing were found on Thursday.
A search of the area Thursday night was called off after dark, but teams returned Friday morning for another search with cadaver dogs.
The Will County Sheriff's Office has set up its major incident command center at the scene.
Sources said it appears the skull appeared to have been in the water for up to a year.
A forensic anthropologist has been called in to help identify the remains, but there was no indication that the skull belonged to Bolingbrook resident Stacy Peterson, who has been missing since 2007.
