The sketch shows a thin man with close-cropped hair and a goatee. It was drawn with the help of witnesses who saw the truck driver pull over on Algonquin Road near 3rd avenue, after Choice Taylor was hit, appearing to check for damage to his truck and then driving off.
It's unclear if the driver knew what had happened and witnesses described a reddish semi-truck cab with a sleeper but not pulling a trailer.
The new information came on the same day hundreds gathered for Choice Taylor's Wake. His family says the police sketch is an answer to their prayers.
"A week ago we didn't know anything, and for us to now have a sketch of the person that may be responsible is like a milestone," Choice's sister, Tatiana Lamy, told CBS 2's Mai Martinez.
Now they're hoping the driver himself will help give them peace by stepping forward. Family members say they bear no ill will toward the person who killed their son -- they just want a sense of closure.
"I am a person of my word," Choice's mother, Lorene Taylor, said. "I will go with them to court and ask for leniency because I know this was an accident. I know he didn't mean to kill my son."
Witnesses said the aerodynamically styled truck that hit Choice was red or burgundy in color, with a front hood and a sleeper cab behind the driver's compartment.
Anyone with information should contact the Des Plaines police department at (847) 391-5400.
