1 Killed, 6 Injured In Bartlett Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An elderly woman was killed, and six other people were injured when an SUV rolled over in northwest suburban Bartlett overnight.
Bartlett police said a Cadillac Escalade was headed west on Lake Street just west of Naperville Road around 12:30 a.m., when it hit the median, crossed the two westbound lanes, hit a curb and a snowbank, and flipped onto the passenger's side.
An 81-year-old woman who was a passenger was severely injured, and died after she was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified her as Fardous Sultana, of the 600 block of Biltmore in Bartlett.
Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis said a 16-year-old boy was trapped inside the flipped vehicle.
Streamwood firefighters used rescue air bags to lift up the vehicle and get the boy out. He also was taken to St. Alexius, before he was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition.
Five other people who were in the vehicle, including the 52-year-old man who was driving, were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Elgin, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Initially, the Streamwood Fire Department said two people were ejected from the Escalade, but Bartlett police later said no one was thrown from the vehicle.
