Six Contracts Expected To Be Tendered By Cubs
The Cubs are expected to "tender" contracts to all of their players Thursday as Major League Baseball and the players association agreed to move the tender deadline to Dec. 2nd. Players who are not offered contracts by Dec. 2nd become free agents.
Six of the players on the Cubs are not eligible for free agency, but are eligible for salary arbitration. They are catchers Geovany Soto and Koyie Hill, infielder Jeff Baker and pitchers Sean Marshall, Carlos Marmol and Tom Gorzelanny.
Expect to see a nice raise for Marshall, Marmol and Soto after a great performance during the 2010 season.
With winter meetings beginning and the free-agent market being established, expect the Cubs to make some big moves in the coming days.
The Cubs' general manager Jim Hendry said he'll explore both the trade and free-agent markets for players to fit his wish list. Hendry is looking for a left-handed hitting first baseman, starting pitcher and reliever.
