Simms: Bears Are 'Borderline Great'
(WSCR) When the Bears fell to the Lions 24-13 as the nation watched on Monday Night Football, some thought that was the final nail in the coffin in the 2011 season.
Since that embarrassing loss, however, the Bears have won three straight games over key NFC opponents.
"They're not good, they're borderline great," NFL expert Phil Simms told The Mully and Hanley Show. "It just shows you, people get enamored with these numbers in the NFL. The numbers? OK, they're awesome, but they don't tell the story. Jay Cutler was fantastic on Monday night (against the Eagles). If you look at the numbers you say, 'OK, they were good, they weren't great, but he played great. The Bears have the formula. They're close. It's going to be interesting to see if they finish this out. I wouldn't want to play the Bears in a big game, especially not at soldier field."

Simms also dished out some love to the at-times unlovable Jay Cutler.
"There are three quarterbacks that drive me crazy around in the NFL with the perception of them around this nation with all the talk shows and everything we see on TV," Simms said. "Even the ex-players drive me nuts. Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez and Jay Cutler -- it's never good enough. No matter what they do, it's not good enough."
