Simeon Track Coach Charged With Sexually Assaulting Three Students
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A volunteer track coach at Simeon Career Academy High School has been charged with sexual assaulting three female students.
Cook County prosecutors said 42-year-old Gerald Gaddy has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault, and aggravated battery. Gaddy was ordered held on $300,000 bond at a court appearance Wednesday.
Gaddy allegedly had "inappropriate sexual contact" with three girls, ages 15, 16 and 17, according to police and prosecutors. Police said the incidents took place between January 1 and June 25 on the 8100 block of South Vincennes Avenue, which is where Simeon is located.
CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports he came into bond court at 26th and California in sweats emblazoned with the words "coach baby face."
Prosecutors say Gaddy repeatedly raped the seventeen year old girl in his school office, and they say he would talk to her while committing the attack.
"Telling her he liked to see her struggle," said Assistant State's Attorney Beth Novy.
Prosecutors say she repeatedly tried to stop the abuse.
"She told the defendant that it hurt," Novy said. "The victim tried to push the defendant away from her and told him to stop three times but the defendant refused."
Gaddy was arrested at his home in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue on Tuesday.
In an email, Chicago Public Schools spokesman Joel Hood said, "A volunteer Track and Field coach at Simeon Career Academy High School has been barred from CPS activities while the District continues its investigation into allegations of misconduct."
