Sick Pilot Diverts Chicago-To-Miami Flight To Nashville
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An American Airlines flight from O'Hare to Miami made an emergency landing in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday afternoon after one of the pilots became ill.
American Flight 2050 left O'Hare at 11:16 a.m. en route to Miami, but made an emergency landing at Nashville International Airport about 12:32 p.m., according to American spokesman Tim Smith.
The Boeing 777 with 213 passengers was in the air when the pilot grew ill, forcing it to divert to Nashville, where it made a safe landing, he said.
"Everyone on the craft is safe," Smith said.
The passengers had to wait about an hour to depart the aircraft, the airline told CBS 2. Another 777 pilot was heading to Nashville to take over the Nashville-to-Miami trip, later Friday.
